We have a couple of parrots, Sam & Wicket.  Sam, our African Grey, we’ve had since he was a baby.  We brought him home at 8 weeks, and from a 2 days after he was hatched, we visited him weekly before we came home.  He’s been rather chatty since he was about a year old (he’s now 6).  Wicket is a Blue-Fronted Amazon, and is, well, more limited in his speech.  He’s also older – we think about 20 years old, with a sketchy background.  We do know he’s sustained 2 broken wings, so is unable to fly or even glide.  His favorite word (perhaps because of his background) is “careful!”.  Both are loved.

About a month ago, I decided that Sam could be taught to support Obama, so I started on an intense project to have him say “Birds for Obama”.  Don didn’t think I could do it.  But a couple of weeks ago, Sam started saying “Obama”, then expanded it to “Birds for Obama.”  I decided I had to share it.  This isn’t his best rendition (our recording abilities are somewhat limited), so I decided to include a bonus “Want some hot vegetables?”, another of his sayings.

So, without further ado, here’s a short clip of Sam’s rendition of “Birds for Obama” and “Want some hot vegetables?”.  Birds for Obama
